Etude 1:
Page 38, No. 30, C
Major, No. 30
Tempo: Quarter note 92 - 104
Play: beginning to end
Errata: The
Forte marking in measure 14 should be on beat 2 of measure 13. The
trills in measures 59 and 63 should have a sharp sign above the trill
symbol and be whole-step trills to a written C#.
Performance Guide:
This etude focuses on facility, light technique, and articulation.
Care should be taken to maintain tempo primo in the more difficult
middle section, especially measures 44-56. Deciding where to breathe in
this section will also require study. Pay careful attention to the
marked articulation patterns in measures 49-55. Strive for a light
staccato where required and a lyrical style in the slurred passages,
particularly measures 56-73.

Etude 2:
Page 40, No. 31b, G
Minor (Bb Major), Andante
Tempo: Quarter note 56 - 69
Play: beginning to end
Errata: none
Performance Guide:
The primary focus of this etude is on the development of the ability
of the horn player to play in the low register. Strive for a beautiful
tone and play with a lyrical and musical approach. The bass clef
measures are written in "Old Notation" and should be played as if
written an octave higher.

Etude 3:
Page 88-89, No. 69, G
Major, No. 69
Tempo: Dotted quarter note 60 - 72
Play: beginning to end
Errata: none
Performance Guide:
Flexibility is key here. Accurate octave leaps out of the mid-low
register at the beginning, and particularly the larger leaps in measures
50-52 will require careful study. Performance tempo will depend on the
ability to keep steady tempo in the extended 16th-note pasages.
The pianissimo marking at measure 38 holds until the crescendo at
measure 45. Observe the decrescendos in measures 51 and 52 and end
softly.
